Biography

Thomas Vose was born in about 1874 in St Helens, Lancashire. He was the son of William Vose and Elizabeth (Boardman) Vose. His birth was registered in the first quarter of 1874, in Prescot district.

By April 3rd 1881, William and Elizabeth were living at 53 Lord Street, Windle. William was working as a labourer, and they had four children - Thomas (7), William (5), Henry (3) and Ada (1).

By April 5th 1891, they had moved to 105 Frederick Street, Windle. William was working as a chemical labourer - a quite hazardous and unpleasant job. Elizabeth was working as a glassworks labourer if the census is correct, even though she had a one-month-old baby. The three eldest sons, Thomas, William and Henry, aged 17, 15 and 13, were all glassworks labourers too. Ada (10), John (8), and Rachel (5) were in school, and James (2) and baby Elizabeth had that to look forward to still.

Thomas married Mary (Kelly) Eggleton or Eggelton in the third quarter of 1898, at St Peter's Church in Parr, St Helens.

Thomas' father died in 1898 in St Helens, aged 47. He was probably buried on 14 Sep 1898 in St Helens Cemetery.

By March 31st 1901, Thomas and Mary were living at 13 Orrell Street, St Helens. Thomas was working as a bottle blower, and they had two children - Thomas (aged 1) and Lily (2 months old).

Thomas died in 1908 in St Helens, aged 34. He was buried on 6 Sep 1908 in St Helens Cemetery.
