William H. Voss, born about 1838 in Virginia, was living in Danville Virginia in 1860, with barkeeper James T. McGee.
When the Civil War began, William would enlist on February 24, 1862, joining Company E of the 38th Virginia Infantry. The 38th Virginia was organized in Pittsylvania County, Virginia in June 1861. Its members were recruited in Pittsylvania, Halifax, and Mecklenburg counties.
He was killed in the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863. [1]
