Mary was a Friend (Quaker)

Mary Votaw and Zachariah Ellyson married in 1789.^[1] The couple were associated with the White Oak Swamp Monthly Meeting (Quaker), and later the Westland MM, Pa.^[1]

From the Goose Creek MM, "Mary now wife Zachariah Ellyson both of South Fork PM Va reported 27-4-1789 "guilty of fornication with each other and married contrary to discipline by a hireling teacher" both disowned 25-5-1789 their joint acknowledgement accepted 28-7-1794 by the meeting 29-10-1794 & their 3 small children Isaac Gideon & Zachariah Jr received by request of parents"
