Jacob Hendrickszoon Vroom is the least known member of his family of Dutch artists. He was born in Haarlem about 1601 to Hendrick Corneliszoon Vroom and Joosje (Gans) Vroom. He married Janneken Gijsberts on 13 August 1622 in Amsterdam,[1] where he was a fine art painter specializing in portraiture in oils.[2] When and where he died are unknown.
The name Vroom existed as a surname in Holland well before 1600. The profile for Jacob Vroom's grandfather, Cornelis Hendrickszoon Vroom, includes a copy of an email (in .pdf format) from the Curator of The Netherlands Institute for Art History in which he explains the use of the name. Not only so, but the University of Amsterdam Centre for the Study of the Golden Age memorializes four generations of his family beginning with Hendrick Corneliszoon de Vroom
