Research Notes

The following notes were added by Vicki Norman in May 2015:

Note: I do not think Johannes was married to Geesie, it was Jan or Janetje Vrooman. or is Jan another name for Johannes?
Note: Discrepancy of Jan Hendrickse Vrooman's wife - was she Grietje Ryckman or Geesie Symonse Veeder? See discussion on: Rootsweb: Dutch Colonies: [2]

Under VEEDER, we find Pearson names Simon Volkertse Veeder alias de Bakker as making his will Jan. 8, 1696/7 and mentioning the following children: Pieter; Gerrit; Johannes; Volkert; Volkie m Barent Jane Wemp; Geesie m Jan Hendrickse Vrooman; Magdalena m Willem Appel.[1]

"Jan Vrooman was the son of Hendrick Meese and married Geesie, d/o Symon Volkertse Veeder, July 4, 1680, and had 15 children - 9 sons and 6 daughters, most of whom attained maturity and left families. He made his will April 24, 1732" [2]

The Vrooman/Vroman Family in America Book (and I[3] know this is loaded with errors including my own mother being listed as the child of her father's brother), states Jan Vrooman b. Feb 2, 1653, s/o Hendrick Meese Vrooman, m Geesie Veeder, d/o Symon Volkertse Veeder and they had 15 children, one of which was Jannetie Vrooman b. 07-23-1682. It goes on to state she married Andress Bratt (1680 - 1767) on 03-04-1705. It also goes on to state they had a daughter Magdalena Bratt who m. Johannes Schermerhorn. [4]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Johannes Hendrickse by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Johannes Hendrickse:

Still waiting for confirmed will of 1732 for Jan Vrooman. The abstracts of wills in the New York State Historical Literature from Cornell university does not show Jan Vrooman. There is a ref. to "heirs of John Vroman.." in a will of John Dubar in 1636 but that is all. Jan was not recorded as Johannes.

Vrooman-151 and Vrooman-44 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest paternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge into the NNS PPP. No tree conflicts. Thanks!

Vrooman-269 and Vrooman-44 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest paternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge into the NNS PPP. No tree conflicts. Alternate birth is in the bio. Thanks!

Vrooman-44 and Vrooman-151 are not ready to be merged because: These do appear likely to be the same person, but let's make sure that we have identified all of his profiles (there seem to be at least three at the moment) -- and have verified that these aren't two different people who have been conflated, before marking one profile as NNS and proceeding with the merges.

Should this be merged with Vrooman-44?
Vrooman-151 and Vrooman-44 appear to represent the same person because: These men have the same birth & death dates and wife. I have done some addtl research and Johannes' father was Henrick Meese Vrooman, which also matches the Vrooman-44 profile. Will initiate a merge for Geesie.
"HendrickMeesen Vroman ym from Valkenburch (married) Jantien Wolters Dorheij dr. of Wolter Claeszen (Dorheij) from Vollenhoo" 31 Dec. 1648 (J.B.Glasbergen marr. in Valkenburg)

There is a German city "Dorheim" not too far away but no connections are known. Hendrick did not marr. Geertruy Johannis. Jan Hendrickse Vrooman bapt. 16 Feb. 1653 The will stated by Wickersham 24 Apr. 1732 is not confirmed. In the Schenectady census of June 1697 only his wife Geesje Vroman is listed with 5 children. As Jan bapt. in Dec. 1696 "Maria" one wonders where he was half a year later? Any ideas?
