Biography

Miguel "Mike" Vásquez was born on September 29, 1896, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, his father, Cecilio, was 23 and his mother, Flora, was 24. He married Gregoria Alonso on September 9, 1918, in El Paso, Texas. They had one child during their marriage. She died tragically in a fire three years after their marriage. Mike remarried five years later in 1926 to Adela V. Martinez. Mike served in both the Pacific and European theaters during World War II. When he was young he was a well known professional boxer in the Southwest. After he retired from boxing he served as a Constable for El Paso County and as a deputy sheriff. He died on July 17, 1985, in El Paso, Texas, at the age of 88, and was buried there.
