Louella was born in Texas, United States in 1903, the daughter of Charlie W Wilkinson and Alva Lena Burton.[1] In 1910, she lived on a farm with her parents and younger brother on the Troup and Bullard Road in Cherokee County, Texas. Her father owned his own farm "free and clear". She had a third living sibling that was not living in the household and a fourth that was deceased. Both her parents could read and write[2]
In 1930, her father was still a farmer, but the family owned a house on Magnolia Street near Langham Street in Troup, Texas, Smith County. Louella had attended university and acquired a Bachelor's Degree. She was an elementary school teacher in Troup Public Schools. She lived with her parents and three younger siblings.[3]
Louella married Alvia "Alvie" Charlie Head in the late-1930s and the couple had one child in 1939. Alvie was a truck driver. Alvie died in Jun 1939,[4] leaving Louella a widow with a four-month-old son.[5] In 1940, she lived with her parents, two younger sisters, and her son, Freddie Charles Head. She was not working and not seeking work.[6]
In 1950, she was teaching second grade in Troup Public Schools.[7]
In 1969, she taught special education in Troup Public Schools.[8] She is thought to have retired in 1970-1971 as she appears in the 1970 Troup Public School yearbook, but not in the 1972 edition. In 1967, her son Fred Head was elected to his first term as a Representative to the Texas Legislature, where he served seven terms through 1981.[9]
She passed away in 1985 in Jacksonville, Cherokee County, Texas.[10] She if buried in Union Grove Cemetery, Smith County, Texas.[1]
Neither Louella not her family has been found in the 1920 census.
Troup, Texas straddles the county line between Smith County on the north and Cherokee County on the south. Louella's younger brother was born in Troup, Cherokee County, Texas in Oct 1905.[11] She was likely born in the same place a few years earlier in 1903.
