Bertha Waddell Waligura, 83, of Amarillo, passed away Dec. 28.
She was born in Rock Island July 29, 1923. She moved to Amarillo in 2001. She served in the U.S. Army Air Corp as General Lucius D. Clay's personal secretary during WWII, while stationed in Berlin, Germany
After her military career she worked at Walcott Schools as a cafeteria cook. She moved to Garwood in 1975 where she was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, painting and various other arts and crafts.
She is survived by her daughter Jeana Higgins and her husband Cliff of Amarillo; sons Mike Barouch and wife Marsha of Green River, Wyo. and Joe Waligura and wife Leanne of Leaky; sisters; Beulah Lundquist of Rock Ford, Colo. and Jean Batla of Sealy; brothers; Tom Waddell of Fabens and Harry Waddell of Bridge City; seven grandchildren Angie, Damon, Jessica, Ashley, Craig, Jessie and Lissy; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2 at Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel in Amarillo. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 4 at Myrtle Cemetery at Rock Island.
Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel 8310 S. Coulter Amarillo.

Bertha Waligura of Amarillo, formerly of Garwood, passed away Thursday, December 28, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Amarillo.
She was born July 29, 1923 in Rock Island to John Jack and Bertha Omelia Riddle Waddell.
She served in the Army Air Corp as General Lucius Clay's personal secretary during World War II, while stationed in Berlin, Germany.
After her military career, Bertha ran the cafeteria of Walcott School near Hereford for many years before returning to Garwood to work as a practical nurse caring for elderly in their homes. She loved gardening, fishing, painting, hunting arrowheads, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jerry Barouch; husband, Joe Waligura, Sr.; and brothers, Jack and Donald Waddell.
Survivors include sons, Joe Waligura and wife, Leanne, of Leakey, Mike Barouch and wife, Marsha, of Green River, WY; and daughter, Jeana Higgins and husband, Cliff, of Amarillo; brothers, Tom Waddell of Fabens, Harry Waddell of Bridge City; sisters, Jean Batla of Bernardo and Beulah Lundquist of Rocky Ford, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Angie, Damon, Jessica, Ã…shley, Craig, Jessie, and Lissy; and two great grandchildren.
Graveside services and interment were set for 10 a.m. Thursday, January 4, at Myrtle Cemetery in Rock Island.
Pallbearers were Rudy Drlik, Pat and Jody Meismer, Craig, Mark, and Michael Waligura.
