DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Nancy by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Nancy:
Yes I think Maupin as current last name for now would be good. Adding Cobb and Waddy as other last names would probably work for now. Im pretty tempted to make her last name at birth changed to "unknown" until a birth record or some other viable source is located to confirm, but I'm not going to mess with it until later this week. Can you please also add the book you are referencing as a source and include the page number too ;)
However, I just read something that does help clarify this a little: In my favorite Maupin reference book, in only one spot, she is called "Nancy Cobbs, nee Waddy." That really does clarify the Waddy parents you have for her. It also makes that familysearch profile look like a big mistake! Now I want to know who the Cobbs was that she was married to before John Maupin!
I adopted this profile with the intention of cleaning it up! I will get to digging in to it and getting it cleared up a bit. Thanks for your help so far, please feel free to make edits/changes as you see fit
I'm not sure this is right... Several sources show the wife of John Maupin to be Nancy Cobbs (or Cobb). Even the marriage record citation in this profile calls her Nancy Cobb. But there are the parents with the Waddy father and Cobbs mother! And their daughter Judith get the Waddy middle name. Family Search calls her Nancy Waddy Cobbs. Lots to think about!! What is the documentation for the Waddy-Cobbs parents? I would love to start one of those great collaborative discussions here!
- Should we put Maupin as her current last name, and
- Should we put Cobb as her aka last name? That might make it easier for others to "see the light."
