Biography

James Wadwell was born on 3rd July 1867 at Muswellbrook, New South Wales, Australia. He was the fourth son of William Wadwell and Anne Spridgeon.[1]

James was a partner in 1899 with a mate, Thomas Sylvester, in suckering at the Black Creek property of John Henry Porter, twenty kilometres from Quirindi. They were living in a 4m x 3m tent on the property. As usual, James headed home to Quipolly to his young family for the weekend. On Saturday 24th June, Porter discovered Sylvester's body in the burnt-out tent. It appeared his lamp toppled as he slept and caught the tent alight.[2][3]

James passed away on 27th May 1943 at Quirindi, New South Wales, and is buried in Quipolly Cemetery.[4]
