master ironmonger.
Potrait of the Wagg Family of Windsor was recorded as being sold at auction by the Complin family and being purchased by the National Gallery. Title was written on the back.
"With blacksmiths, as in all branches of society, there was a pecking order. Among the best, Thomas Wagg lived in style in Bruton Street. William Windham, one of his clients, wrote to his agent in Norfolk saying, " I just now heard that Wagg sets out for Felbrigg tomorrow . You must scheme about his living for he is a top master workman and lives in a very good way." From Richard Wagg's bankrupcy we also know that his father had workshops in Richmond and Hampton Court, where the son contiued the business. Thoams died in August 1754. In his will he bequeathed 100 pounds to his son and the remainder of his estate to his daughter. It would seem that he suspected Richard was a feckless lad. That Thomas Wagg was successful cannot be doubted . as he lived in style and was accorded respect by his clients. " pg 240 and pg 361 of the Walpole Society Vol. 67
