Alfred was born[1] and baptised in 1887 in Hunstanton, Norfolk, England. He was the son of Alfred Wagg and Phoebe Winch;[2] Alfred lived in Hunstanton with his uncle and aunt, Alfred and Elizabeth Allen.[3] In 1901 he worked as a fish hawker.[4]
Alfred married Violet Petchey in 1909.[5] The family lived in King's Lynn, Norfolk, in 1911 and Alfred worked as an auctioneer's bailiff and labourer.[6]
