(1918). Obituary: An old resident of Hay, and a colonist of nearly seventy years, passed away yesterday, in her home in McGregor-street, in the person of Mrs. Rose Anne Wagland. -The old lady had suffered a long and painful illness from an internal trouble, for which some time back she underwent a temporarily successful operation in the metropolis. Mrs. Wagland was born in Gloucester, England, and left for Australia with her family, when a few years old. On the wayout both father and. mother died; and she arrived in Australia accompanied by an elder and younger brother. She married the late Mr. Wagland in Victoria, and they settled in Hay some 35 years ago. Mr. Chas. Wagland was for a number of years one of the then numerous body of carriers who made Hay their headquarters, and he died here suddenly from an attack of appendicitis about 21 years ago. Mrs. Wagland, who was 75 years of age, is survived by four daughters — Mrs. C. H. Swalwell, of Sydney; Mrs. T. Callaway, of Sydney; Mrs. Jos. Taylor, of Hay; and Mrs. C. Best, of Sydney — and two sons — Mr. H. Wagland, of Sydney, and Mr. F. Wagland, of Hay. The funeral took place this afternoon, the remains being interred in the Church of England cemetery. (1919). In Memoriam: WAGLAND. — In sad and loving memory of our dear mother, who passed away on February 21st, 1918. A better mother never lived. / Nor one more true and kind, / Her equal in this dreary world / We very rarely find. / Her heart was always in her home, / She toiled to do her best, / But God thought fit to call her home. / And now she is at rest. / Always in our saddest moments, / How we wish that you were near, / We have lost our truest and dearest, / Our best friend, our mother dear.— Inserted by her loving sons and daughters, Henry, Frank, Annie, Emily, Alice, Ethel.
