Biography

William Wagstaff was born in 1811 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.

He was a Private with the 51st Regiment of Foot. S/N 730. He arrived in the Swan River Colony from Hobart of the Runnymede arriving 25/6/1840.

William married Mary Ann (Murphy) Wagstaff (1818 - 1885). There is no online marriage record in Western Australia.

Their 3 children were:

  1. Mary Anne (Wagstaff) Morris (1836 - None)
  2. John Wagstaff (1845 - 1922)
  3. Elizabeth (Wagstaff) Andrews (1853 - 1940)

From 1864 - 1875 he was a Tailor in Toodyay.

In 1875 he was the Town Cryer for Toodyay.

In 1880 William died at the age of 69, at the Invalid Depot in Perth, Western Australia. His previous occupation was listed as Tailor.
