Research

I have never found documentation demonstrating that Calvin Waid was Abraham Waid's father. DNA was submitted for Abraham Waid by Stanley Wade hoping that we could clarify their relationship, but no DNA has been submitted from a known male descendant of Calvin Waid. Stanley is well documented as a male descendant of Abraham's. His lineage is from Abraham's first marriage (wife's name not known.): First Generation: Abraham Waid, born about 1788 in South Carolina (date of birth extrapolated from 1850 Census; location of birth given in 1850 census) and died between 1870 and 1880 in Blount County, Alabama. Second Generation: Stokes Beeson (Beason) Waid is buried in Hopewell Cemetery, Hanceville, Alabama. Tombstone lists his birth date as April 25, 1827; died June 14, 1906. Third Generation: Reuben Abraham Waid b. July 12, 1858 d. February 5, 1940. Buried at Littleville Cemetery, Haleyville, Alabama. Fourth Generation: Reuben Henderson Waid was born March 12, 1894 and died March 23, 1986. Buried at Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Sipsey, Alabama. Fifth Generation: Stanley Allen Wade was born September 26, 1921. MORE INFORMATION Abraham Waid was born about 1788 in South Carolina (date of birth extrapolated from 1850 Census; location of birth given in 1850 census) and died between 1870 and 1880. This was sent to me by Robin Sterling: The Gadsden Times, 7 Jan 1876: Died. Waid.--In Blount Co., on the 3rd inst., Mr. Abraham Waid, aged about 80 years. The last census that I have found Abraham and Ceily is the 1870 Blount County, Alabama Census. I have not located him or his wife Ceily in any 1880 census. I have not located his or Ceily’s grave. Ceily had three children by her first marriage that are listed in the 1850 census. She is believed to be his second wife. Some researchers believe that his first wife was Amissa Cragg, but I have no data to support that other than information found in the THE WADE QUARTERLY VOLUME 4 ISSUE 2 SEPTEMBER 1977: BRUNSWICK CO., N.C. MARRIAGE RECORDS 1804-1868 (Bx 112 of State Archives m.f.)11 Sep 1809 - WADE, ABRAHAM and Amisea Cragg, Jo, V. Dosher, bond.; Jno. Gause, Jr., wit. Marriage in Marshall County Alabama: Waid, Abraham (Abner) to James, Ceily (Celia) 1849 APR 21 1849 APR 21 R. Ivy 109-3. The 1850 Blount County, Alabama census lists Abraham and wife Ceily (believed to be his second wife.) Living in the household is Stokes B. Waid, age 21. He is buried in Hopewell Cemetery, Hanceville, Alabama. Tombstone lists his birth date as April 25, 1827; died June 14, 1906. He married Lettice Hays, daughter of Reuben Hays and Tabitha Cornelius Hays. Tabitha is the daughter of William Cornelius and Lettice Cargill Cornelius. She is listed as an heir in William Cornelius’ will. Stokes Beeson (Beason) Waid and Lettice Hays Waid had a son named Reuben Abraham Waid b. July 12, 1858 d. February 5, 1940. He is buried at Littleville Cemetery, Haleyville, Alabama. Reuben Abraham Waid married (1st) Louella Greer, November 8, 1882. Marriage recorded in Etowah County, Alabama. Louella Greer Waid died July 5, 1895 according to Reuben Abraham Waid’s Bible. I believe that she is the Louella Waide buried at Hopewell Cemetery, Hanceville, Alabama whose tombstone states that she was born November 3, 1860 and died July 5, 1895. The tombstone is located fairly close to that of Stokes Beeson Waid and Lettice Hays Waid. Family oral tradition (from Mama and Jack Dempsey Abraham Crumpton) holds that Ella Greer Waid had been married before; that she was a widow and had at least one child, possibly a girl. The 1890 Federal census was destroyed, so I have no data on the child. Family tradition further holds that Ella Greer Waid's maiden name was “Watts.” I now have a marriage record from Etowah documenting her first marriage. According to Reuben Abraham Waid’s Family Bible, he married (2nd) Synthia Jane Rivers (my great-grandmother) September 10, 1899. The youngest son of Reuben Abraham Waid and Louella Watts Greer Waid was Reuben Henderson Waid. He was born March 12, 1894 and died March 23, 1986. He is buried at Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Sipsey, Alabama. Reuben Henderson Waid married Roberta Drummond. Their son Stanley Allen Wade was born September 26, 1921. Stanley married Louise Sherer. He agreed to give the DNA sample which was run by Family Tree DNA. [2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Calvin by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Calvin:

I've been researching Calvin for at least 15 years. I've taken his somewhat rambling pension statement and tied it into specific people and places in history, much of it in NJ. If anyone is interested in reading it, I'm happy to share. My husband is a direct descendent of Calvin through his daughter Sarah's marriage to John Haislip.
