Biography

Lewis Gorham Wait had his birth registered at Ross in Herefordshire, in the first quarter 1851.^[1] His place of birth is noticed on the 1911 Census where he states he was born at Bishopswood.^[2] In that Census he was staying at Awre, in Gloucestershire, likely with his uncle.

In 1861 he is recorded, at the Census, as living, with his family, at Suffolk Parade, St. Mary's Parish, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.^[3] The census record suggests he was born at Urington, Gloucestershire, but this is an error.

Lewis Gorham Wait married Anne Mary Francis Lee, daughter of John Machan Lee, at Calcutta, India, on 3 March 1879.^[4] Both are recorded as single.

He may have married a second time, after returning from India. There is a registration of a marriage between Lewis G. Wait and Deborah L. Greenway, at Wheatenhurst, Gloucestershire, in the fourth quarter of 1918.^[5]

His death is registered for the third quarter of 1921 at Westbury On Severn, Gloucestershire.^[6]

It is noted that Kit Withers "Wait of Somerset" states there was a third marriage 11 October 1897 at Barton Regis. Glouc.to Caroline Pridham b. 13 June (year not given), death date not given. No mention of children for any of these marriages.
