Margaret was born in January, 1872 in Vaughan Township, Ontario, the daughter of Hannah Jane Thomson 1833-1905 and John Wakefield 1828-1909. She is eight years old living with her family in Vaughan in the 1881 census and she is 19-years old still with her family in the 1891 census. In the 1901 census she is 29-years old, still living at home and, although the census column showing “occupation” has been crossed out, there is a check mark in the column “living on own means.” It is not clear what this means (she is not an employee).
In 1907 Margaret marries John FISHER 1855-? John was born in England and had come to Canada with his family in either 1856 or 1859 (the census records provide conflicting information). He lived in Markham Township – the townshisp to the east of Vaughan -- on a farm with his family. The farm is just a few kilometres east of the village of Thornhill. He is living there in the 1901 census, with his parents (William and Mary) and three unmarried siblings. The family is Methodist.
In the 1911 census, Margaret and John are living on a farm in Markham. Presumably this is the Fisher family farm as the widowed mother of John and the unmarried brother are living with them. They have two children: Edna (7) and Alfred (3). A third child, John, died in 1910 at the age of five as a result of Scarlet Fever.
No further records on Margaret and John have been found.
Margaret and John had the following children:
Edna Fisher 1904-?
John Fisher 1905-1910
Alfred Fisher 1908-?
