George was a son of William Wakeford and his wife Bett, christened on 9 May 1802 at Northchapel, Sussex.[1]

George Wakeford, son of William, was married to Charlotte Ede, daughter of James Ede, at Ewhurst, Surrey, on 20 November 1841.[2] Their daughter Sarah was christened at Ewhurst, Surrey, in 1843.[3]

At the 1851 census, George Wakeford was recorded living at Highcanfold, Cranley, Hambledon, Surrey. He was 48 years old, born at Northchaple, Sussex, and a farmer of 90 acres employing 3 laborers. Also in the household were wife Charlotte, 36, born at Loxwood, Sussex; daughter Sarah, 7, born at Ewhurst, Surrey; house servant Charlotte Perey, 16, born at Cranley, Surrey; and farm servant James Tugwell, 35, born at Ewhurst, Surrey.[4]

The 1861 census recorded George Wakeford, age 58, at High Canfold, Cranley, Hambledon, Surrey, a farmer of 90 acres, born at Northchapel, Sussex. Other family members were wife Charlotte, 47, born at Wisborogreen, Sussex; and daughter Sarah, 18, born at Ewhurst, Surrey. The household also included house servant Elizabeth Foster or Tosler, 14, born at Alfold, Surrey; James Tugwell, 45, carter, born at Ewhurst, Surrey; and William H__ck, 16, undercarter, born at Shafford, Surrey.[5]

The 1871 census recorded George Wakeford, age 68, widower and retired farmer, as "father-in-law" in the household of John Stanton and his wife Sarah in Cranley, Surrey.[6]
