HLW---There is no absolute proof that Shadrack Waldrop SR. was the son of Michael Waldrop III. Aside from the children mentioned in the 1799 Spartanburg Deed, below, other children are undocumented. There has been controversy over the years; some saying that Shadrack was son of Michael of the 1771 Royal Land grant and others saying he was son of Michael of the 1768 Land Grants of SC. As of 1998, there is no absolute proof]

Mary Claire Oliver Cox donated her genealogy research to the South Caroliniana Library at the University of South Carolina at Columbia, SC. She proved her relation to Shadrack and was accepted into the DAR.-CW Mary Claire Oliver - 40919DWWHLWJD Letter from Mary Claire Oliver Cox to Darreall Waldrop, 728 Jackson Circle, Birmingham, AL Dear Mr. Waldrop I very much appreciate your letter of December 28th concerning the Waldrop Family. In accordance with your suggestion, I am writing to Mr. Frank Waldrop of Washington, DC. My line of descent is as follows: Shadrack Waldrop, born 1780 in SC, married Rachel Rhoades, born 1780 in SC. I think them to be the children of Shadrack Waldrop and of Christopher Rhoades of Spartanburg Co., SC. Juda Waldrop, daughter of Shadrach and Rachel (Rhoades) Waldrop, born Sept. 10, 1801, died April 29, 1879, married 1831 Seaborn Jones Jackson (born Jan 9, 1804, died July 9, 1890). They lived in the southern part of Gwinnett County, GA. Elizabeth Anne Jackson (born april 5, 1838, died March 18, 1896) married Sept 14, 1854, Miles Jefferson Langley, born June 30, 1830, died Mar 23, 1863. Thomas Langley, born May 2, 1858, died July 15, 1944, married Jan 30, 1886, his cousin Mary Frances Bennett, born Nov 1, 1869, died Dec 16, 1931. (Their fathers were first cousins.) Mamie Alma Langley, my mother, a resident of Marietta, GA, married Aug 22, 1906, Hoyt P. Oliver, born Sep 29, 1884, died Mar 30, 1916. Mary Claire Oliver, daughter of Hoyt P. and Mamie Alma (Langley) Oliver married June 8, 1935, Henry Miot Cox, born Sep 19, 1907. The name of Waldrop does not appear in Gwinnett County (GA) records until about 1825. The estate of Shadrach Waldrop was administered in Gwinnett County but I have not as yet had an opportunity to look up this record. Sincerely Mary Claire Oliver Cox

A cemetery in Spartanburg Co., SC, south of Enoree has come to our attention that was on the original land grant of Thomas Couch. He did stipulate that an acre of his land be held as a cemetery. This acre passed through several descendents hands including RHODES and STROUDS. So far we have found the following people buried there: Thomas Couch and child; Christopher Rhodes; Judith Couch Rhodes; Christopher Rhodes II; Sabra Freeman Rhodes; Hannah Rhodes Stroud; Isaac Stroud; Henry Stroud; Sarah Stroud; Jeremiah Stroud. I suspect that Shadrick Waldrop and Martha Pattey Couch may be buried there. 'Old Rhodes or Stroud cemetery' along the Enoree River about 1/2 mile from the Ridge Road? We are going to try to get this dedicate as a historical site since so many of the original members of the founding settlers of Spartanburg county are buried there. Hi Howard! I came across the Waldrop profiles here that you are managing. Shadrack is my 4th great grandfather, Ira my 3rd, Eli my 2nd, Mary Bessie my great grandmother and Viola Hice Denham was my grandmother, my mother was Neda Denham. Wondering how you and I are related? Love looking at these profiles! I have some of this information in a booklet of papers from Waldon E Waldrop that my grandmother gave me several years ago.

I took the dna test from Ancestry.
