Biography

James "Scotch" Walker was born May 1, 1756 at Saline, Fife, Scotland. James was the son of Alexander Walker and his wife Christian Henderson.

James was christened on June 6, 1756 at Craigshouse, Saline, Fife, Scotland.

Little is known of James before his enlistment in the Scottish regiment of General Burgoyne's, British Army that came to North America to fight those darn upstart American colonists. James was captured at the Battle of Saratoga in the fall of 1777. Apparently James was offered the chance to remain in America if he fought for the Colonists and he took them up on the offer as in 1778 he was a member of Chapin's Regiment of the Massachusetts Company of the American Army. Sometime between 1779 and 1780 he can be found with Todd's Co. of the Massachusetts Artillery and later in 1780 in Joseph Browning's co. of Murray's Massachusetts Regiment. 1781 finds him in yet another group this time Oliver Coney's Co. of the Massachusetts Regiment.

On December 11, 1781 James Walker and Sarah Field, the daughter of John and Hannah Blackman Field, filed an intent to marry at Greenwich, Hampshire, Massachusetts. The actual marriage taking place on December 27, 1781. James and Sarah became the parents of eight children.

James Walker and family can be found living in Brandon, Rutland, Vermont, USA between 1819 and 1849.

In 1832 James had filed an Abstract of Revolutionary War Pensions, file Number S19150.

James Walker passed away in July of 1849 at Pittsofrd, Rutland Vermont, USA. While James Walker's place of burial is unknown to me, someone has created the following Find a Grave memorial for him.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
