Biography

Dr. Robert Walker was educated at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. then settled at Kingston Plantation, Dinwiddie, Va.

Jun 1774 Robert married to Miss Susan Harrison, of Wakefield, in the County of Surry. [1]

Will of Robert Walker Jr.

[2]In the name of God Amen. I Robert Walker of the County of Dinwiddie do make, ordain and publish the following as my last will and testament, in reference to all the property real, personal or missed of which I may have after die signed and possessed, to wit:

Imprimis, my wish and desire is that in the first place, my just debts or responsibilities, if any, be paid, and the whole of my remaining estate be divided between my two daughters Mary Walker Griswold, and Ann E Brodnax, on terms of exact, and precise equality, subject however to the provisions hereafter indicated to wit:

It is my will that my (__?) daughter Mary shall have in fee simple the track of land called Mount Arvy in this county on which she at present resides, and that my daughter Ann shalt have in fee simple the track of land purchased by me of M. Brodnax in the county of Greenville, on which she at present resides, but in considerations of the supersedes greater value of the later, it is my will that my son-in-law Meriwether B. Brodnax, pay to my son-in-law, Marvin R. Griswold such sum as to render these two devices of precisely the same value, which sum if not agreed between them shall be divided by three arbitrators whom they may select for this purpose. Item- It is my will and desire that my Executors hereinafter nominated pay to the mother of my two daughters two hundred dollars, annually, during her life out of my personal estate.

Item- It is my will and desire that my Executors hold my Stock in the Bank of the United States, as trustees, the yearly dividends from which shall be kept as a permanent fund for the education of the children of my said two daughters, and that the same be used for that purpose so long as tho save may necessary at which time it is to pay as before directed in reference to my other estate ~~ And if in the mean time the said Bank shall be abolished, I hereby authorize them to reinvest the said Stock in any other profitable (f?????) if in their discretion should prudent to do so.

I hereby nominate and appoint the said Meriwether B. Brodnax and Marvin R. Griswold Executors of this my last will and testament, which is hereby subscribed with my hand, and with my seal aruerened?, this Twenty fourth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty .

Codicil January 24th 1830. I bequeath and direct as follows that as part of my personal estate which may be allotted to the Marvin R. Griswold, I wish him to have one part of my shop's furniture, medicine and books, and the other half I bequeath to my nephew Robert W. Haxcall of Richmond

This last will and testament of Robert Walker dec'd and the codicil anr coced, were proved by into oaths of William H. Brodnax and A. E. Brodnax, subscribing witnesses, and entered to be recorded And on the motion of Meriwether B. Brodnax are of the Executors here in named who made oath there, and together with William H. Brodnax, Thomas Withers and Abner Adams his securities entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of one hundred thousand dollars, conditioned as the law directs, certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate of the aid will in due form~~ and at another court held for the said County on the 15th day of March 1830 on the motion of Marvin R. Griswold the other Executors named in the said will, who made oath thereto, and together with Thomas Hunt, William Parham, S and Henry S Hardaway, his securities, entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of one hundred thousand dollars, conditioned as the law directs, certificate is granted him be joined in the probate of the said will.
