Michael was born about 1883. He is the son of Michael Gore and Mary Murphy. His birth was listed in the June indexes[1]. Michael's birth date of 12 April 1883 was taken from his death registration[2]. In the 1901 census of Canada his birthday was listed as 11 Nov 1882. His tombstone lists a birth year as 1884[3].
Michael's father, also named Michael died in Sept 1885. In the 1891 England Census for South Everton, Lancashire, his mother and aunt were living at 84 Creswell St. Margaret Skillicorn, age 31, is a the head of the household, a widow and a Manageress of a Public House. Her son Walter, age 9, was in school. Mary E. Gore, Margaret’s sister, a widow, age 38, was a (illeg.) Stewardess. Mary’s son Michael, age 8 was also in school. Elizabeth Clay, age 15, single, was a General Servant. Margaret Mary’s daughter May was not listed in this census entry, and has not been found. She would have been 7 years of age.
Michael came to Canada with his aunt, Margaret Skillicorn and his two cousins, Walter and May. His mother had immigrated earlier, and Margaret brought him to his mother in Vancouver.
In 1911 M. G. (Michael Gore) Walker and Myrta Ross Walker were living at 1337 West 8th Ave in Vancouver. Michael was age 27, born in Apr 1883 in England, immigrating to Canada in 1893, a Roman Catholic and an Engineer, employed full time. Myrta was age 40, born in Jan 1870 in the USA, an American citizen and Methodist. She immigrated to Canada in 1909 (after her marriage in 1908). Also living in the household was Constance Walker, Michael’s sister, age 14, born in Jun 1886, a Roman Catholic; Myrta’s son Joseph E Ross, age 21, born in June 1890 in the USA, a single Baptist Mechanist working in an auto shop where he had been employed for 50 weeks earning $160 and Mary Smith, age 32, born in May 1879 in England, a lodger. Mary had immigrated to Canada in 1895 and was an artist and an Anglican[4].
He is listed as a widower on the certificate of his marriage to Dorothy McLeod when he was 42. He was a machinist with the Vancouver Engineering Works for 35 years, retiring in 1952. The marriage was witnessed by Florence Anne McLeod of 1182-7th Ave, West Vancouver and Ernest Willie Jamb (best guess, surname illegible) of 588-16th Ave, West Vancouver, BC. The officiant was Edward M. Gougan, United Church of Canada, of 1160-10 Ave, West Vancouver.
At the time of his death he was living with his son, also named Michael Gore Walker at 1195 12th Street in West Vancouver. Cause of death was myocardial infarction. He also suffered from a cerebral embolism and had atherosclerosis and chronic nephritis. He was buried 30 April 1957[5].
'Find a Grave' states his death as 26 Apr 1957 (aged 72–73) in Vancouver, Greater Vancouver Regional District, British Columbia, Canada. He is buried in Mountain View Cemetery. 'Find a Grave' comments state, "Michael's father, also named Michael Gore, passed away in 1885 when Michael was 1 year old. They lived with his mother's older sister Margaret, then emigrated to Vancouver BC. Michael's mother remarried in the early 1890's to Thomas Wilson Walker & Michael had a half sibling Constance. Michael had two marriages; in 1908 to Myrta Ross, in 1925 to Dorothy McLeod[6].
He was buried on April 30, 1957 in Mountain View Cemetery, Vancouver, BC[7].
