Wilmer "Jim" J. Walker, 84, of Leechburg, died at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday (July 20, 2004) in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, Harrison. Born April 7, 1920, in Tarentum, he lived in Leechburg the past 51 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Prior to retiring in 1982, he was a craneman in the shipping department of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., West Leechburg Works, for 35 years. Mr. Walker was a member of Hebron Evangelical Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and United Steel Workers of America, all in Leechburg. An avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed baseball and following the Pittsburgh Pirates. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dorothy M. Highfield Walker; and a son, Kevin Walker of New Kensington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Sarah Worch Walker; two brothers, Robert and Herbert Walker; and a sister, Iva Rose Tarr. Friends will be welcomed by his family from 7 to 9 tonight at CLAWSON'S, Second at Main, Leechburg, where funeral ceremonies will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. Officiating will be the Rev. Darrell L. Carney. Burial will follow at Forks Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Gilpin. [1]
