John Samuel Lee Walker was born about 1842 in Campbell, Virginia to Charles Walker and Louisa Pope. Parents were wed on November 14, 1838 in Campbell, Virginia.

In Campbell County in 1850 and East Campbell in 1860, John was with his parents, shown as one of eight children:

John S. L. Walker would join the 11th Virginia Regiment, Company E in 1861 when the Civil War broke out. He would be transferred to the 2nd Virginia Cavalry, Company I in December of 1861. He was a courier for General J.E.B. Stuart from December of 1862 to April 1864.

John survived the war, and in 1870 census was shown with wifer Mary C(est 1849 Va) and daughters

  1. Lula J 1868, and
  2. Florence W. 1870.

The 1880 record for Falling River, Campbell, Virginia showed additional children 3. Ann L 1870, 4. Charles 1876, 5. Lelia 1879 FamilySearch shows two more: 6. Carrie 1886, 7. Mary 1887, but corresponding census not matched yet.

John Samuel Lee Walker lived out his years in Campbell County, and passed away on January 22, 1922.

John was born about Jun 1842, the son of Charles Armistead Walker and Louisa Pope Mason. [1] [2]

John's date of birth is uncertain -- it is variously recorded between 1840-1844. His unsourced Find A Grave memorial shows 08 Jun 1840, and his death certificate shows Jun 1842. The latter is used here.

He served during the Civil War in Company E, 11th Virginia Infantry Regiment. [3]

John married in Dec 1866 at Charlotte County, Virginia to Mary C. Bailey [4] and they had children: [5] [6] [7] [8]

He passed away in 1922 [9] and is buried at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Gladys, Virginia. [10]
