Biography

Aka John Raymond Bradley. Son of William Lewis Walker and Flora Annette Parrish. Born William Walker. He changed his name some time after leaving the army and was thereafter John Raymond Bradley. John lived across the street from Nathan and Tillie (Sarah Matilda) Smith Hawkins. John who was a widow at the time helped Tillie care for her ailing husband. After Nathan died John and Tillie were married.

John and Tillie were in Upper Lake visiting his sister at the time of his death.

Although John's headstone has his birth year as 1892 , John's draft registration cards shows his birth date as May 27, 1888.

1900 Census has his age as 12 years old.

Parents last names on Death record: Father Walker, Mother Parrish.

Was born APPLEBEE, but took the name WALKER after mother married William Lewis WALKER. Needs further research.

Information from Personal records of Wanda LaVern Kennedy. 2761 E 300 N Layton, Utah. Marriage License, Death Certificates, Birth records in possession of Wanda LaVern Kennedy.

Served in the U.S. Navy under the name of William Lewis Walker jr. 1674288 from 17 Oct 1907 to 23 Nov 1909 as an ordinary seaman serving onboard the USS Nebraska from Dec 31 1907 to Nov 17 1909 and the USS Independence Nov 18 1909 to Nov 23 1909 and was not decorated nor was given any awards.

Do not know how nor where separated from US Navy. Served in the US Army under the name John Raymond Bradley from 15 Jun 1918 to 17 Dec 1918 as a private of Battery "D", Sixth Regiment Field Artillery replacement draft at Camp Zackery, Taylor, Ky. Was inducted 15 June 1918 for the duration of the emergency and was Honorably Discharged 17 Dec 1918 by reason of demobilization.

Changed name to John Raymond Bradley jr. in approx. 1912 in California Court?

Was a mechanic on The Southern Pacific Railroad.

Baptised 7 Jun 1916 by Joseph T. Dies and was confirmed this day by Elias S. King. Ordained an Elder 27 Dec 1925 by Nathan A.Tanner.

Was in United States Navy from 17 Oct 1907 to 23 Nov 1909 as an Ordinary Seaman and served aboard the USS Nebraska from 31 Dec 1907 to 17 Nov 1909 and the USS Independence from 18 Nov 1909 to Nov 23 1909 from National Personnel Records Center military records division Serial Number 1674288.

He was on the round the World Cruise with the Great White Fleet in 1908-1909. Family story is that he jumped ship and deserted, changed his name to John Raymond Bradley jr. and later served in the Army getting an Honorable Discharge.

Was born APPLEBEE, but took the name WALKER after mother married William Lewis WALKER.

After he came home from the WWI he lived across the street from William and Matilda HAWKINS, and help with the care of William (bathing and feeding him) until his death. After William died he later married Matilda (Tillie). At the time of his death he was a Mechanic for the Southern Pacific Railroad.
