Martha died and was buried on 3 Mar 1781 at St Peter & Paul in Hellingly Sussex. ^[19] Given the date of her burial and her last child's christening date (Barbara in May 1781), it could be surmised she died from childbirth.

Almost three years after her death, James remarried Sarah Stredwick and went on to have another four known children.
