Eleanor and John were first cousins once removed. They both had the Walker surname and both descended from John (1) Walker (1727-1804) and Elizabeth Boyd (1735-bef. 1804) who arrived in America aboard the "Earl of Donegal" which landed at Charles Town, South Carolina in 1767. That family settled in the Waxhaw region between North and South Carolina about 1771. The names of John (1), Andrew, and Thomas can be found in the 1790 census in Mecklenburg Co., NC.

Two sons of the ancestor couple, Thomas and Andrew lead down to James Young Walker and siblings. The two brothers married two sisters.

Thomas (1759-1847) m. Margaret Crye (1761- 1828) and had son:

..... John (3) Walker (1797-1865) who m. Eleanor Johnson Walker (1807-1846)

Andrew Walker (1756-1845) m. Sarah Crye (1757-1798) and had son:

..... John (2) Walker (1781-1858) who m. Sarah Jane McCain (1783-1822) and had daughter:

............... Eleanor Johnson Walker (1807-1846). [The name Johnson comes from Sarah McCain's mother.]

Sons Thomas D, John C, Jas Y, and Andrew B. can be found in the 1850 census in Lafayette Co., MS with widowed father John (3). John (3) and his father Thomas are in Lafayette Co., MS by the 1840 census. John (3), James Y., and Andrew B. are together in the 1860 census in Columbia Co., AR while Thomas D. lives separately. Daughters Mary (Walker) Butler and Sarah (Walker) McDaniel also came to Columbia Co. AR.

I got some of my information from notes taken by James's grandson Woody Black who got them from a Walker family Bible - see James Young Walker for picture of bible. Catlin. End
