Biography

George was born in 1603.

Alternate: George was born in 1600 in Great Staughton, Huntington, England. He was the son of Gervase Walker and Ealifia (Mary) Walker.[1]

Baptism of George son of Gervase Walker 2 April 1604 at Great Staughton, Huntingdonshire.[2]

He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, Scholar 28 October 1617, he obtained his B.A. in 1621 and M.A. 1624.[3]

Rector Badoney in 1630, and Rector Cappagh in 1636. He was affected by the Irish Rebellion in 1641 and the later Commonweath Period 1649-1660. On 25 October 1660, he was restored to the Rectories of Cappagh and Badoney, on his own petition, stating that he had been expelled at the beginning of the rebellion and had lived abroad since then.[4]. He was Rector Donoughmore, Desertlyn, and Errigle Keerogue 1662-74. He was Chancellor of Armagh 1664-1677.

When George was about 38 he married Ursula Stanhope in 1642 in Melwood, Yorkshire, England. The couple had 5 children: George Walker, Godfrey Walker, Gervase Walker, Margaret Walker and Anne Walker.[5]

George died at the age of 74 on 15 September 1677 in Armagh, Ireland.[1][5][6]

George and his wife were buried in Kilmore Church, where an inscription on a plain stone in the floor in front of the Chancel reads : — " Here lyeth the body of Doctor G. Walker, Chancellor of Armagh, and Rector of Kilmore, who dyed the 15th day of September, Ann. Dom. 1677."
