He served in the Civil War, Company G, 3rd Tennessee Calvary and was a prisoner of war in Cahaba, Alabama from 1864-1865. He perished on board the Sultana steam ship headed from Vicksburg, MS to Ohio to be mustered out when it exploded on April 27, 1865
burial; Daniel's body was never recovered, as was many others who perished that day.
