Biography

Virne was born on 10 Aug 1887 to Perry A. Wall and Sarah L. Copeland (1850-).^[1] Perry had been born in South Carolina and Sarah in Georgia, but by 1900 the couple lived in Hamilton County, Tennessee. Virne (13) was the fifth of seven children they had at the time.^[2]

In 1910 Virne (22) still lived with her parents and worked as a school teacher in the public schools.^[3] The following year she married Joseph Mitchell in Hamilton County.^[4] In 1912 the couple's first daughter Virne Beatrice (known as Jackie) was born, followed by daughter Josephine Nora in 1914.^[5][6]

In 1920 and 1930 the family lived together in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee.^[7][8] In 1940, both daughters lived with Virne, who was listed as married in the census, though her husband was not present in the home.^[9]

Virne died in 1941 and was buried in the Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga.^[1][10]
