Biography

From Echoes And Reflections: Some History and Genealogy of the White Family and Allied Families in the Pee Dee Section of South Carolina, 1735 to 1900:

"Hugh Giles Wall, born September 20, 1802, died 1881, married circa 1834, Sarah M. Davis, born 1814, died 1836; he married Sarah A. Charlotte Palmer, died 1845, and they had four children; he married June 3, 1845, Mary Elizabeth Eagerton, born 1820, and they had nine children."

"Hugh Giles Wall, born September 20, l802, died 1881, was the son of Wright Wall, Jr. and Mary Bradley. He was married three times, and he had thirteen children by his second and third marriages.

He was reared in the well-to-do family of a planter in Marion District S. C. In the early 1800's his father owned over 800 acres of land and, by 1830, he or his estate had 22 slaves. His family lived in the Britton's Neck section of the county.

The Hugh G. Wall family were members of Terrell's Bay Baptist Church, organized 1787 or earlier, which was originally located about a mile NW of present Centenary, S. C. Hugh G. Hall was an early layman in the Church. In 1842, he was elected as a delegate to the Pee Dee Association but he did not attend that year.

Hugh G. Wall was active in the affairs of his community, as shown by his having witnessed many deeds and wills, and he probably was an astute businessman as well. From 1822 to 1868, he was successful in recovering the costs of several promissory notes through the-Courts. In the 1860 Census, he was listed as a farmer with $5,000 in real property and $14,000 in personal property."
