In the 1900 census Mary C. Dyer (age 61) was the widowed aunt of Edith Leighton in Milbridge, Washington, Maine.^[4]

In the 1910 census a Mary C. Dyer a(ge 69) was listed as the single mother-in-law of Arthur S Leighton in Milbridge, Washington, Maine, United States. Eidth's mother was Charlotte, so this Mary C Dyer might have been Edith's aunt.^[5]

Mary married (1) Joseph Wilkinson in 1868. Joseph seems to have had three wives:

• Sarah Abbot - married in 1849 (appears in 1850 census)
• Mary Elizabeth Phenney (Finney) - married in 1857 (appears in 1860 census)
• Mary C Wallace - married in 1868 (appears in 1870 census)

It appears that Austin Dyer first married Charlotte, who died in 1881. ^[11]

Then he must have married her sister Mary. Then he died in 1897. By 1900, Mary is living with her niece Edith.
