Biography

Thelma Wallace was born in 1903. She was the daughter of Corry Wallace and Annie White. Her older siblings were:

  1. Willard James Wallace (1891)
  2. Myrtle A Wallace (1892)
  3. Mabel Carroll Corbett (1894)
  4. Corry Adrien Wallace (1898)
  5. Lorena W Wallace (1902)

1909, her sister Madge Elizabeth Wallace was born.

1910s

In 1910, Thelma W Wallace (6) lived on Maine Road in Dames Quarter, Somerset County with her parents Corry J (43) and Annie R (38), older siblings Willard J (19), Myrtle A (17), Mabel C (15), Corry A (11), Lorina W (8), younger sister Madge E (1), and a boarder Mr Allison G White (63). Corry and Annie had been married 20 years. Annie was the mother of ten children with seven living. Corry Sr and Willard were oyster dredgers. [1]

They were neighbors to Irving J Wallace (51) and family. Corry worked as a carpenter, Irving worked as a general farmer. [2]

In 1922, her son Wilfred J Meyers was born. Wilfred was the son of Samuel Meyers and Thelma Wallace.

1940s

On 7 May 1940, Thelma Mitchell (36) lived at 521 College Ave in Salisbury (election district #13) with her son Wilfred Meyers (18) and mother Annie Wallace (67). Their monthly rent was $8; they did not live on a farm. Annie was white, widowed, born in Maryland, highest grade of education completed was 8, and a homemaker. Thelma was white, widowed, born in Maryland, finished 7th grade, and unable to work. Wilfred was white, single, born in Maryland, finished 8th grade, and a new worker. On 24 Jan 1941, her son Wilfred J Meyers enlisted in the US Army from Baltimore, Maryland. [7]

In Nov 1942, her son Wilfred's engagement to Dolores Bruckner of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was announced. On 21 Nov 1942, her son Wilfred James Meyers (20) married Dolores Mae Buckner (17) in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Dolores's grandmother Edna M Buckner, residing at 1113 Federal St in Pittsburgh, provided consent for her marriage. [8]

Thelma Mitchell married Michael DeStefano.

1950s

On 19 Oct 1954, her brother Willard J Wallace (63) died at home in Salisbury. He was buried at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. [9] [10]

On 26 Apr 1957, her mother Annie R Wallace (84) died. She was buried at Parsons Cemetery. [11] [12]

On 5 Aug 1958, Thelma W Destefano (55) died. She was buried at Parsons Cemetery in Salisbury, Wicomico County. [13]

Jr. of Salisbury, Mrs. Reda Ulman of Laurel, Md., Mrs. Hazel Bradley of Salisbury, and Gerald Robertson, a stepson, of Edmonston; his mother, Mrs. Annie Wallace of Salisbury; a brother Correy Wallace of Chester, Pa.; four sisters, Mrs. Lorena Jenkins, Mrs. Madge Mills, Mrs. Inez Hastings, and Mrs. Thelma Desfalento of Salisbury; and an uncle, William White of Irvington, Va. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Church of God on E. William St. with the pastor, the Rev. R. E. Crowley, officiating, assisted by the Rev. .Philip L. White. Burial will be in Wicomico Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Holloway Funeral Home tonight after 7:30 and at the church tomorrow after 1:30 p.m.

She was the widow of Corry James Wallace of Salisbury and is survived by five children, Corry A. Wallace Jr. of Chester, Pa., Mrs. Lorena Jenkins, Mrs. Thelma DeStefano, Mrs. Madge Mills, and Mrs. Inez Hastings, all of Salisbury; several grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, James White of Norfolk, Va., and William T. White of Irvington, Va. Mrs. Wallace was a member of St. Andrew's Methodist Church. A Funeral service will be conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Howard E. Evans, from the Holloway Funeral Home Monday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Parsons Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7:30 p.m. tomorrow.
