Biography

Genealogically Defined

James Crawford was born 23rd December 1860[1] at Ryde, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England[2][3][4][5][6] and was baptised on the 27th January 1861 at St. Thomas, Ryde, Hampshire, the son of William Wallace and Emma Wallace[7].

James Crawford married Emily Annie Perry on the 24th December 1884 at St Mary the Virgin, Rowner, Hampshire, England. James Crawford Wallace, 24 bachelor, brickmaker of Fareham, son of William Wallace (carpenter) & Emily Annie Perry, 22, spinster, of Fareham, daughter of Arthur Perry (Retired Warrent Officer). Witnessed by Harry Wallace and Isabella Wallace[8][9]

James Crawford's wife Emily Annie died aged 29 years in 1892[10], probably during childbirth as their youngest son Frederick George was born at the same time, and he was sent away to live with his maternal grand-parents after his mother's death.

On the 11th May 1895, James Crawford re-married to Rhoda Filler at St. Luke, Southsea, Hampshire, England. James Crawford Wallace, 34, widower, labourer, of 22 Sydenham Terrace, son of William Wallace (carpenter) and Rhoda Filler, 26, spinster of 22 Sydenham Terrace, daughter of Richard Henry Filler (Turncock). Witnessed by Alfred Bramwell & Alice Bramwell[11][12]

In 1897 James Crawford was occupied as a dynamo attendant at the Fareham Electric light works, and on the 22nd October, James Crawford was assaulted by Alfred Scorey, who was fined £1 at the Fareham Petty Sessions on Monday 25th October 1897[13]

James was living at 97 Gosport Road , Fareham, Hampshire, England in 1939 with his 2nd wife Rhoda (b. 15 Aug 1868) and son Horace D. Wallace (b. 2 Sep 1898)[1]

He passed away in 1944 in Hampshire, England[14].
