Nellie was born on 14 February 1894 in Wisconsin. (1930 census, SS Death Index)
Name
The 1924 census (typescript) gives her Hocąk name as CheHaChoWinKah, however, the handwritten 1905 census shows that the /o/ is in error for an /e/, since this census has CheHaCheeWinKah', 'which is for Cehaciwiga, "Buffalo Robe Lodge Woman", which is from ce, "buffalo, cow"; ha, "hide, skin, robe"; ci, "lodge, house, home; to live"; -wi-, a feminine gender suffix; and -ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names. This appears to be a Buffalo Clan name. As the wife of a Deer clansman, however, she would be expected to have been from the Upper Moiety ("Bird Clan"), which is a reason for thinking that it might not be a Buffalo Clan name.
Education
She was able to speak and write in English. (1930 census)
Marriage
In 1912 she married Harold Blackdeer, who was 19 years old at the time. (1930 census)
Children
Nellie Wallace and Harold Blackdeer had the following children (1930 census):
Earl Blackdeer (b. 1911)
Wilbur Blackdeer (b. 1914)
Ray Blackdeer (b. 1916)
Clifford Blackdeer (b. 1918)

Eleanor Blackdeer (b. 1924)
Harold Blackdeer (b. 1926)
Wallace Blackdeer (b. 1929)
Marjorie Blackdeer (b. 1930) (1940 census)
In addition, they had a nephew, Joseph Green (b. 1911) living with them in 1930.
