Disputed Origins

It has been stated on several other sites that the father of this William Wallace was William W. Wallace. There are numerous William Wallace individuals that lived in Indiana. There were three distinct William W. Wallaces born about 1825. The first was married to an Anna (There are too many possibilities for her surname so far). He was a marble worker. The second was married to a Sarah. He was a sawyer. That William had an obituary in 1891 that listed his father and brother, no family members, though records show that he and Sarah had many children. The third William Wallace Wallace-764 was married first to Cordelia Butler, had six children including a William who died in 1945, and died in 1891 in Indianapolis. He was born in Pennsylvania and therefore conflated with the Indiana Williams. (Silva-1055)

Research Notes

On other sites he is said to be the son of William W. Wallace. That William listed no children in his Will, and there weren't any listed in his obituary. On this William's death certificate, his wife stated that she didn't know his parents names. Additionally, this William states more than once that his parents were born in Ohio, whereas William W. was born in Indiana.(Silva-1055 13:30, 1 April 2022 (UTC))
For the birthplace on his death certificate it said Monroeville, Indiana. But, the town appears to be crossed out? All records except for the 1920 census say he was born in Indiana. On that census it appears his birth state is transposed with the parents. They should say born in Ohio, and he born in Indiana. His children were old enough, one of them could have talked to the census worker.(Silva-1055)

William's death certificate lists his birthplace as Marionville[crossed out] and then Indiana. There is no Marionville in either Indiana or Ohio.

There are 11 William Wallace individuals born between 1868 and 1870 on the 1870 US census for Indiana. Each was examined, none of them appear to the William Wallace of this profile. There are 19 William Wallace individuals between 1868 and 1870 on the 1870 US census for Ohio. These were not examined. Also not examined were possible name variations.
