Reverend James Wallace was the son of James Wallace and Issobell Thomson. His birth was attested by three lairds. He was baptised on 17 July 1668 in Errol, Perthshire, Scotland.[1] [2][3]
The Rev. James Wallace fled from Scotland in the rebellion. He was the first emigrant Wallace. He settled in Back River in Elizabeth City County. He brought with him an immense table service of plate on which was engraved the Wallace Coat-of-arms, he being a descendant of Sir William Wallace. The dinner and breakfast service of silver consisted of two turines and ladles, a full set of covered dishes, pickle and butter dishes, knives and forks and every appurtenances that belong to a dinner and breakfast set of silver, all of the most massive silver.
James Wallace married Anne, daughter of John Shepard and widow of Quintillian Gutherick and, secondly, the widow of Thomas Wythe, 11 July 1695. [2] She made her will in 1739 which was probated in 18 Feb 1740.
Wallace was a physician and the Rector of St. John's Church in Elizabeth City for 21 years, from 1691 to 1712.[2] He was also a Doctor of Medicine and was a very clever businessman.
Rev. James Wallace passed away in 1712 and was interred firstly in the Hansford Cemetery, Hampton, Hampton City, Virginia, USA.[5]
When Rev. Carter Brackstone Bryan was Rector of St. John’s Church he used his influence and had the grave marker from Rev. Wallace and his wife’s graves moved to St. John’s Church and later to the cemetery on Pembroke Avenue; Third Church of Elizabeth City Parish Cemetery, Hampton, Hampton City, Virginia, USA[6] Though the markers were moved the bodies still remain in their original resting place. [7]
In his will, Rev. James Wallace requested that he be buried on his plantation “Errol” on “Back River”. He named his plantation “Errol” from his home in “Enroll” in Perthshire, Scotland.
Here lyes the body of the Reverend Mr. James Wallace, late Minister of this Parish. He was born at Errol in Perthshire, in North Britain. He was serviceable to this Colony in a double capacity, both as a Devine and a Physician, for the space of one and twenty years. He exchanged this life for a better on the 3rd of November, A. D. 1712, and in the 45 year of his age. "Excuse deceased Friend if I Forbear t'attempt thy praise, "'tis far above my sphere. "Only in silence let me drop a tear, "Say Virtue fled and left one temple here."

Miss Emily Macrae says : "James Wallace fled from Scotland in the rebellion of '45. (NOTE: Due to the info only stating "45" it is unclear if this was actually 1645 or 1745. This would have lined up with the son of the subject of this profile however the son would have been 67 years old in 1745! ) He was born at Erroll in Scotland; (NOTE: The following James' are born in Errol in Scotland and the search was from 1600-1700 -
his birth attested by three lairds. He settled on Back River, in Elizabeth City Co. He brought with him an immense table service of plate, on which was engraved the Wallace Arms, he being a collateral descendant of Sir William Wallace. The dinner set of silver consisted of two tureens and ladles, a full set of covered dishes, pickle and butter dishes, knives and forks and every appurtenance that belongs to a dinner and breakfast set of table silver, all the most massive silver. He, James Wallace married Elizabeth Westwood of Hampton Va (my great-grandmother). She was remarkable for her great beauty, accomplishments, strength of intellect and piety. Their children were eleven — six of whom attained the age of maturity — Robert, James, Euphon, Mary, Martha, Eliza. Mary died single, all were beautiful, though she was probably the most lovely. Euphon married Bailey Washington (my grandfather). Martha married Mr. James; Eliza married John Macrae, of Orangefield, Prince William Co., Va. Robert by the laws of primogeniture, inherited the princely fortune of his father. He married Miss Mallory near Hampton, Va., and left one son who died Unmarried leaving his property to his mother's relations. The family seat of the Wallaces on Back River was called 'Erroll' after the seat of the Wallaces in Scotland. Elizabeth Westwood's mother was a Miss Howard, of the house of Norfolk, England. She was a near relative of one of the Colonial Governors of Virginia of that name, Francis Howard, Baron of Effingham, born in England 1630, died there 1694; son of Sir Charles Howard, Governor of Virginia 1684 to i588." New record has detailed narrative and identifies parents.
Since you rejected the merge due to differing places of birth, can you please remove all the sources and information on this profile that indicate a birth in someplace other than Virginia. And please explain in the biography the circumstances that his parents never came to Virginia, yet had a child born in Virginia....
