Merriam was born in New York state, United States, about 1857. She is the daughter of William Wallace and Merriam Miller. Merriam is seen residing with her parents, and siblings in the 1860, and 1870 US Census, in Acquacknock, Passaic, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, respectively.
Merriam passed away on October 3, 1876, in Philadelphia. She was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Philadelphia.
