Biography

Marriage Record for son Alexandria Waller names his parents as Milton and Mary Waller. [www.familysearch.org] Alexandria Waller was the Informant listed on Milton Waller’s Virginia Death Certificate. [www.ancestry.com] Until further information is found to determine otherwise, it is probable that Milton Waller and Mary Palmer were Alexandria’s parents.

MILTON WALLER was born in the state of Virginia in 1840, calculated from age 74 at his date of death in 1914. Virginia was a slave state until the Civil War, therefore Milton was born into slavery. Have found no census listings for individual names of slaves in the 1850 and 1860 federal census records. Milton’s owner was a Waller, therefore Milton was given the Waller surname. Milton Waller and Mary Palmer were married in 1874 according to the 1900 Federal Census. Census records list nine children born between 1867 and 1888: Laura, Nancy, Moses, Margarette, Robert, Samuel, Price, Hester and Frank, plus one grandson William Gilbert. Both the 1900 and 1910 Census list Mary as the mother of eleven children, seven living at the time of the census. Note that there is no Alexandria on those census records.
