Biography of Anna Leonore Walsh Lemmon McCollam

Anna Leonore Walsh was born in about 1891 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania. This date is based on the application for her marriage to Howard S. Lemmon. ^[1]

She married Howard Lemmon on 22 Jul 1912 in New Cumberland, Hancock, West Virginia. She was 21 years old and Howard was 23. ^[2] The marriage did not last long and I believe that Anna divorced Howard and marriage again and then divorced a second time. Her surname given in the 1930 US Census is McCollam and she indicates that she is divorced. In reading the biography of Howard Sylvester Lemmon we see that after he returned from WWI he went to live with his mother rather than his wife, so I would proposition that a divorce occurred prior to his return in 1918. ^[3]

Records show that Anna and Howard at a son, John Homer Lemmon, born in 1914. Some Ancestry Family trees indicate that there was a second child, a daughter, name Rose. No further information was found at this time.

Other information gleaned from the 1930 US Census is that Anna's 15-year-old son, John Lemmon lived with her, as well as her 65 year old widowed mother, Anna Walsh. The younger Anna reports that she is employed as a model in a department store. She also stated that she did not attend school, but was able to read. She was born in Pennsylvania, but her parents were both born in Ireland. Her mother, Anna Walsh indicated that she immigrated from Ireland in 1885. ^[4]

No death information for Anna Lemmon McCollam has been located at this time. However, she was still alive at the time of her son John's marriage to Margaret Irene Rhodes as stated in their marriage license. ^[5]
