WINCHESTER, VA., August 23. - (Special.) - Mr. R. William Walters, City Coroner, and one of the leading citizens of Winchester, died here to-day, after a long illness of bronchial trouble. He suffered an attack of grip about a year ago, and never fully recovered. For the past few weeks he has been gradually sinking. Mr. Walters was born in this county sixty-seven years ago, and passed his whole life here.

City Coroner R. William Walter, of Winchester, died yesterday of bronchial trouble, as a result of an attack of grippe a year ago, from which he never fully recovered. He was sixty-seven years old, and a lifelong resident of Winchester. He was born in Frederick County. He was unmarried, and leaves one sister and two brothers. He was clerk of the Magistrate's Court of the Town of Winchester from 1870 until 1873. When Winchester was created a city he served as clerk of the Corporation Court, until 1880. At the time of his death he was commissioner in chancery and city coroner. For many years he was also recorder and acting mayor.
