Biography

Aloysius "Blackie' Walters, 80, died Jan. 15 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita.

He was born Nov. 24, 1922, at Catherine, the son of Alois F. and Dora Meis Walters.

He married Mary Glassman Nov. 5, 1947, at Hays. A resident of Great Bend for 55 years, coming from Hays, he worked for Western Auto, Coast to Coast and retired from Vicker Corporation, all of Great Bend.

Walters was a member of Knights of Columbus, St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111 and American Legion Post 180, all of Great Bend. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a sergeant in World War II.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Ronald J. Walters of Hudson and Kenneth F.

Walters of Shawnee; one daughter, Barbara Ann Holt of Olathe; two brothers, Archie Walters of Hays and Alfred Walters of Aurora, Colo.; five sisters, Hilaria McGuire, Cecilia Basgall and Lorraine Wasinger, all of Hays, Eleanora Marzano of Tacoma, Wash., and Leona Schwartzenberger of Hoxie; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Marcellus Walters, Richard Walters, Seraphin Walters, Albert Walters and Alvin Walters.

Vigil service followed by Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with the Revs. Rene Guesnier and Angel Dy officiating. Burial will be at Great

Bend Cemetery with military rites conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of the funeral home.
