Biography

History of the Walter Family: Found in the reunion records of the Walter Family kept by Mariam Margaret Walter of Akron, Ohio, daughter of Ernest Elmer Walter, who was the son of Jacob and Magdelena Stegner Walter, and the grandson of Frederick and Margaretha Jenniwein Walter."

Jacob Walter (third child of Frederick, Sr) was born near Clarington, Monroe County, Ohio on December 15, 1849, the year of the forty niners when the great rush was made to California for the search of gold. He was an industrious hard working farmer and finally possessed 180 acres of land near his father's farm.

He married Magdelena Stegner, Dec 22, 1877. Their first child, Albert Henry, was born April 26, 1879, in the log cabin on the homestead. There were four other children, Amelia Lucy, Everett, Ernest and Ruben.

He moved from the homestead about 1914 to Clarington, Ohio where he lived to 1919 in order that the youngest son Ruben might have a high school education and Everett could live on the farm. He moved to Park View, Wheeling, West Virginia where he lived until his death November 2, 1931.

He was well and hearty other than suffering from arthritic change of old age, until he accidentally fell down stairs, severely injuring himself; he died four days later. He was a kind, hard working man beloved by all who knew him.
