"David Charles Walter was born PA 30 Dec 1830. David died 21 Mar 1892 Otoe Co. NE, at 61 years of age. His body was interred 22 Mar 1892 Otoe Co. NE, Camp Creek Cem.

He married Louisa Brubaker Holmes CO, Ohio, 21 Sep 1851. Louisa was born Holmes CO, Ohio 10 Mar 1835.

Louisa was the daughter of Jacob Brubaker and Mary Smith. Louisa died 31 May 1890 Otoe Co. NE, at 55 years of age. Her body was interred 2 Jun 1890 Otoe Co. NE, Camp Creek Cem"


1892 Nebraska City News.

Last night D.C. Walter, who lived on his farm eight miles south of the city, (Nebraska City) died after a lingering illness. He was one of the pioneers of this county, coming here in 1856, and locating where he has since lived. He was Instrumental in organizing the Congregational church at Camp Creek and was one of the prime movers in the building of the church near his residence in 1863. He leaves a family of seven children---one, a daughter, (Melissa) being a missionary to Africa, being located on the Congo River. Mr. Walter was about 60 years old.

Historical Record David C. Walter came to Otoe County in 1856, probably in the latter part of the year. He and his family were not listed in the Territorial census of August 1856. he settled on a claim in the eastern part of Otoe Precinct, on which he filed a preemption entry on August 25, 1858. He was listed as a farmer in the federal census of 1860, 29 years of age and a native of Pennsylvania. Louisa, his wife was 24 years old and born in Ohio. There were three children at that time. Henrietta, aged seven years; William G., aged four; and Edwin S.,aged two. The two oldest children were born in Missouri and the youngest was born in Nebraska. Mr. Walter is listed as owning 160 acres of unimproved land, valued at $500.00. His livestock, worth $80.00, consisted of two milch cows, two other cattle and four hogs. He had raised 200 bushels of wheat, 500 bushels of corn, 80 bushles of oats, 7 bushels of potatoes and had put up 10 ton of hay. He also raised enough sorghum to have 38 gallons of molasses made and the family sold 75 pounds of butter. In July Mr.Walter was paid for jury service. In September of 1860 he and his brother Edward took part in a gun battle and helped recover some stolen cattle. In November 1861 his official bond was approved by the county commissioners, but the office he was to hold was not stated. In June 1864 his claim as constable was allowed The Family was listed in Otoe Precinct in the territorial census of March 1865. Besides the three children named in 1860 there were two younger daughters, Mary Jane, aged four and Melissa, aged one.

In April of 1868 a Congregational church was organized on Camp Creek with 27 members. Both Mr. and Mrs. Walter were active in perfecting this organization and the church was built near their home.

Mr. Walter and his family were recorded in the Otoe Precinct in the 1870 Census. Beside the five children listed in 1865 there were two more sons, Wallace, aged three years and Wesley aged one. Mr Walter owned 130 acres of land, valued at $4000.00, of which 63 acres were under cultivation and 10 acres in woodland. His farm implements were worth $100.00 and he paid out $100.00 for farm labor the previous year. His livestock, valued at $700.00, included four horses, five head of cattle, including four milch cows and thirteen hogs. In 1869 he had raised 100 bushels of wheat,1500 bushels of corn, 100 bushles of oats, 100 bushels of potatoes and had put up 9 ton of hay. The family had also sold 50 pounds of butter and 75 pounds of cheese. His body was interred 2 May 1922 McCook, Red Willow Co, NE, Memorial Park Cem, Willow Grove. He married Emma Jane Strine Otoe Co. NE, 21 Mar 1882. Emma was born PA 24 Dec 1853. Emma was the daughter of Philip Strine and Martha Jane Forney. Emma died 28 Jul 1940 McCook, Red Willow Co, NE, at 86 yearsof age. 15 iv. Mary Jane Walter was born Otoe Co. NE 22 Mar 1861. Mary died 9 Dec 1950 at 89 years of age. Her body was interred 12 Dec 1950 Otoe Co. NE, Camp Creek Cem. She married George Cole Otoe Co. NE, 11 Aug 1881. George died 20 Mar 1957.

A special telegram to the Lincoln Journal from Beatrice, (NE) gives the particulars of the Killing of Wallace Walter, a young man about seventeen years of age. ath that place , last evening, Young Walter attemped to jump on a moving train, missed his footing and fell beneath the wheels, which passed over the lower part of his body, cutting him in two. He lived but a few minutes, but long enough to make the statement that he tried to get on to ride to the Union Pacific depot, which was corroborated by other witnesses of the accident.
