James was born in 1919. He was the son of Sam Walters and Talitha Palmer. He passed away in 2001[1] in Collierville, Shelby, Tennessee.[2]
The 1920 US Census documents his family living in Richland Parish, Louisiana.[3]
James was living in Memphis, Tennessee, with his mother and siblings when the 1930 Census was taken[4] and the 1940 Census. In 1940 he was a 21-year old shopman who had completed high school.[5]
In 1940, James married Mary Ann Reed in Shelby County, Tennessee. [6]
Research Notes
The Social Security record lists his birthplace as "Archville," Louisiana. There is no "Archville," Louisiana. The birthplace is probably "Archibald," in Richland Parish where the family was placed when the 1920 US Census was taken.
