Moses Aaron Walton Birth 30 Nov 1874 Sabetha, Nemaha County, Kansas, USA Death 20 Jan 1965 (aged 90) Sabetha, Nemaha County, Kansas, USA Burial: Sabetha Cemetery Sabetha, Nemaha County, Kansas, USA Memorial ID: 120410529

Moses Aaron Walton, who had been seriously ill the past several weeks, passed away at his home in Sabetha Wednesday noon, Jan. 20, 1965, at the age of 90 years, one month, and 21 days. His son-in-law George Fowler, who has been as an son to him, tenderly cared for him during his last illness.

Mose, as he was affectionately called, was one of seven children born to David and Rhoda Thornton Walton. Born Nov. 30 1874, in Sabetha, he resided in or near that community all of his life, with the exception of a few years in Texas and Nebraska.

Mr. Walton followed his father's trade, which was construction work. Many houses in this vicinity bear evidence of their work.

He was a lover of flowers--roses in particular. Each year his beautiful rose garden drew admiring glances from passers-by, and many stopped for a visit to the garden.

Early in life he accepted Christ as his Savior and united with the United Brethren Church in Sabetha. Always willing to do his part in the work of the church, he held various offices, among them church pianist and song leader. During his lifetime he memorized many chapters from the Bible and, in his last illness, he loved to quote scriptures as a past time.

On April 14, 1897, he was united in marriage to Carrie Mae Bestwick. They observed their 67th wedding anniversary last year. To this union were born eight children: Mrs. Lila Martsolf, Sabetha; Ivan Ray, now deceased; Mrs. Mabel Gladwin, North Hollywood, Calif.; Mrs. Pansy Fowler, Sabetha; Lawrence of Pea Ridge, Ark.; Mrs. Lillian Rooney, Seneca; Kenneth of Springfield, Ore.; and Dale of Augusta, Kans.

Mr. Walton leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of the home; the seven above mentioned children; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Clara Reed of Springfield, Ore., and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services were held at Popkess Chapel, Jan. 23, 1965, Rev. S. F. Kochensparger officiating. Favorite hymns were sung by Miss Augusta Wheat and Mrs. Don Hughes, accompanied by Mrs. W. R. Popkess, organist. Casket bearers were: Melvin Deaver, William Deaver, Ray Deaver, Bernard Wiltz, Harvey Landreth and Rev. Glenn Fruth. Interment Sabetha Cemetery.
