Wampa was born in 1830.
Name
The name given in the 1880 census is Wampa. This would seem to be for Wapa, "Head," although /am/ suggests the nasal /ą/. It is also odd in not having the usual termination of a name in -ga. Since it doesn't appear to be a regular clan name, it must be a nickname or honorific name.
