Nancy was born about 1826 in Wisconsin, which was then part of Michigan Territory.
Name
The censuses give her Hocąk name as WaNeekChaKaWinKah, with the exception of 1905 which has WaNeekChawKaWinKah. This may be for Wanįkcągᵋwįga, "Great Bird", from wanį́k, "bird"; cąk, "real, big, great"; -wį-, a feminine gender infix; -ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names. This is an Upper Moiety name.
Since "grandmother was the oldest daughter in her family" (Lurie 2) her birth order name would have been Hīnū́gā.
Residence
In the mid-1870s, the family was removed to Nebraska. "Grandother had relatives in Nebraska. ... In Nebraska she saw her sisters, the second and third daughters. They were very eager to see their relatives." (Lurie 2)
Death
She is present in the 1912 census, but absent in the 1913 census, which implies that she died in 1912 or 1913.
