Biography

Kermit Maurice Ward and her first husband, Earle Bennett Thompson had a baby girl named Margaret Earlene Thompson. Margaret died at the age of eighteen months from kidney disease. She is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Judsonia, White County, Arkansas, near her father.

Obituary: Little Rock, Arkansas Gazette, Wednesday, March 13, 1991: "Mrs Kermit Toombs. Mrs Kermit "Big" Ward Toombs, 85, of Little Rock, a retired teacher, died Wednesday. She was a member of the Arkansas and National Teachers Associations, American Association of Retired Persons and a member of Douglassville United Methodist Church. Survivors are two daughters, Kermit M Thomas of Little Rock and Carolyn E Long of Navarre Beach, Fla; a sister, Helen Drake of Hondo, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Private graveside service will be today by Ruebel Funeral Home."

Kermit Maurice Ward Toombs was a public school teacher in the Pulaski County and Little Rock Public Schools for many years. She was first married to Earl Thompson and had a daughter Margaret who died in infancy not long after the death of Earl. She then married Edgar Toombs who had 3 children by a previous marriage. She and Edgar had 2 daughters, Kermit Maurice Thomas, who passed away on February 16, 1998, and Carolyn Edgarette Long. In addition to Carolyn Long, she is survived by 9 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. We still miss and love you every day. We will always remember how you loved, worried about, and cared for us.
