Edith was born about 1905, the daughter of Freland Hasten Ward and Mahala Jane Taylor.[1] She married Gilbert Sanford Whaler, a man 19 years older, in Monroe, Michigan on July 26, 1922.[2] Edith and Gilbert had three children together:
Gilbert Dale (1923-1991)
Ruth Catherine (1924-1999)
Norman Albert (1930-2011)
They made their home in Detroit where, in 1930, Gilbert worked as a magazine advertising salesman.[3] Later, Gilbert found work as a machine at a "motor car place," an automobile factory.[4]Edith filed for divorce in Detroit, which was granted in 1943. She was 38 at the time and Gilbert was 57.[5] Both of the older children had left the home by that time. Edith married again, marrying Lawrence Frazier, a gardener, in Grosse Pointe Shores on Mary 31, 1944.[6] Edith was also working at a factory at the time. The marriage certificate states that she is widowed but Gilbert didn't pass away until 1966.
Lawrence passed away in 1955 and Edith passed away at the age of 78, in 1983.[7] She is buried at North Farmington Cemetery in Farmington Hills, Michigan.[8]
